Springer Controls has sold the GE line of 30mm joysticks for many years, so when ABB decided to discontinue the line, Springer jumped into action. Springer Controls has partnered with New Elfin in Italy to offer their line of 30mm pilot devices. The New Elfin line of 30mm joysticks have proven themselves to be an upgrade to the GE® joysticks, in terms of quality and design. Rated IP65, dust and low pressure water tight from all angles, and rated for use down to -13F (-25C) and up to 149F (+65C) these joysticks can be used in a wide range of applications from portable conveyor belt controls, to cranes and hoists whether indoor or outdoor.
New Elfin joysticks are offered in single axis or 2 axis. Single axis joysticks are called 3 position, for the center, forward and reverse positions.
2 axis joysticks are called 5 position, Forward/Reverse, Left/Right, and Center.
In both cases the joysticks are fitted with NO/NC contacts to ensure that all contacts are open in the center position, and 1 unique contact will close in each of the other positions as you move the joystick.
The New Elfin 30mm joysticks are available with maintained positions where the joystick will remain in whatever position the operator has left it, while spring return will always return to the center position when the operator releases the joystick.
To help prevent accidental operation from bumping, they can be purchased with a mechanical interlock. The interlock is a button on the top of the joystick that must be pressed to allow the joystick to move out of the center position.
Since GE used a different part numbering scheme for the US and European markets, we’ve crossed both to make it as easy as possible to find your replacement 30mm joystick.
Find access to all the 30mm joysticks from New Elfin here: https://springercontrols.com/product-category/control-equipment/pilot-devices/30mm-pilot-devices/30mm-joysticks/
Additionally we have found that the rubber bellows from New Elfin will also work with the old GE joysticks, so if you have a dried up and cracked bellows, GE part number 077CM, you can replace it with the New Elfin bellows, part number NE-030SM, which can be found here: https://springercontrols.com/product/ne-030sm/
